Four years ago, we set out to build something bigger than a bike ride—we set out to build a movement, and it’s astonishing to see how far the BellRinger community has come. We launched BellRinger with a simple but ambitious goal: to rally our community behind cancer research and accelerate the breakthroughs happening at Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. What started as an idea has turned into an unstoppable movement.
Since our Inaugural Ride in 2022, the BellRinger community has raised over $4.6 million for cancer research—a testament to the dedication of everyone who has joined us on this journey. This past October, we saw thousands of Riders, volunteers, partners, donors, and supporters come together once again, proving that when we unite for a cause, there are no limits to what we can achieve.
Cancer research funding has never been more urgent. The landscape of cancer treatment is evolving rapidly, with new discoveries on the horizon that have the potential to change lives. But those breakthroughs don’t happen in isolation—they require sustained investment, collaboration, and the kind of unwavering commitment that defines BellRinger. The reality is that cancer doesn’t wait—and neither can we.
Philanthropic dollars such as those raised by the BellRinger community are critical to early-stage, cutting-edge research that is not traditionally funded by larger government grants. Philanthropy fuels our fight against cancer.
This is our opportunity, as a community, to ensure that this work continues. The funds raised through BellRinger are not just supporting research; they are accelerating it. They are empowering scientists to ask the bold questions, to pursue innovative ideas, and to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Every dollar raised, every mile ridden, and every voice advocating for this cause brings us one step closer to a future without cancer.
The funds raised through BellRinger directly support pioneering research at Georgetown Lombardi. Thanks to BellRinger, we’ve been able to invest in groundbreaking projects led by top researchers in the areas of colorectal and brain cancers, improving cancer treatments, and cancer prevention.
These aren’t abstract projects—they are real efforts that could transform how we prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer. But groundbreaking research is only one piece of the puzzle—ensuring that these advancements reach those who need them most is just as critical. That’s why the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Prevention at Georgetown Lombardi also plays a vital role in our mission, providing essential cancer screening and navigation to care services for underserved communities in our region. By bridging the gap between research and access to care, the Center helps make sure that more people—regardless of their background or circumstances—can benefit from the lifesaving discoveries.
As we prepare for our fourth Ride, I’m filled with a renewed sense of urgency and optimism. Every Rider who signs up, every donation made, and every volunteer who lends a hand strengthens the foundation we are building together.
I know from experience that the road won’t always be easy. There will be challenges—both on the bike and in the lab. But I also know this: our collective effort is making a difference.
So, let’s keep going. Let’s keep riding. Let’s keep proving that when we come together with purpose, we have the power to change lives.
I can’t wait to see you on the roads this fall.
Stay safe and be well,
Lou
