BellRinger, a bike ride and community movement to end cancer with Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, raised $1,453,747 with its inaugural 25-, 50-, and 100-mile fundraising rides on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Over 850 riders, including local cancer survivors, cancer researchers, avid cyclists, and new and casual riders united in the mission of ending cancer.
“Our inaugural Ride to end cancer was a resounding success,” said Dr. Louis M. Weiner, Director of Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. “The funds raised this year and for years to come represent a critical new way to fund breakthroughs in cancer research. I want to thank each and every person in our growing community of survivors and supporters for joining together to make such a tremendous impact.”
Georgetown Lombardi is the only National Cancer Institute designated comprehensive cancer center in the D.C. area and has been a leader in cancer research for over 50-years –– from breakthroughs in breast cancer treatment, to contributing to the creation of the HPV vaccine, and enabling “bench to bedside” research and clinical trials with their clinical partner MedStar Health.
“I want to thank each and every person who has put in the energy to ride and fundraise,” said Chris Timko, Executive Director of BellRinger. “BellRinger’s fight to end cancer is just starting, but we’ve shown that our ambitious new community movement can make a meaningful impact that will save lives.”
BellRinger will commence its second annual 25-, 50, and 100-mile fundraising rides on Saturday, October 21, 2023 with an opening ceremony to kick off festivities on Friday, October 20. BellRinger expects to register more than 1,000 Riders with the goal to raise over $2 million.
